It seems unbelievable, but Damaris Silva, a federal deputy from the Morena party (who, incidentally, lived in the US for 30 years before arriving in the Chamber of Deputies), has just presented a bill to modify Article 7 of the Federal Labor Law and lower the mandatory hiring quota for Mexicans from 90% to 75%. The intention? To hand over that quarter of operational and professional positions to “migrants in vulnerable situations.”
This proposal clashes head-on with our harsh reality: we live with more than 50% informal employment, wages stagnating in the face of inflation, and thousands of young people without opportunities. While the working class cannot find decent jobs, it is incomprehensible that the priority is to give away formal positions to foreigners, raising serious suspicions in the current political landscape. If we add to this Sheinbaum’s recent donations to AMLO’s association supporting the Cuban regime and the opaque contracts for doctors from the island inherited from the previous administration, it seems the congressional bloc is looking to throw them the door wide open. 🇨🇺 The congresswoman argues that migrants should “feel included,” but she says this comfortably from a seat paid for by Mexicans who struggle to make ends meet with salaries of 10,000 pesos, without medicine or security.
Given all this, the big question that remains is: Mexicans first, or the regime’s friends first?
