Mexico City International Airport (AICM) reported on Saturday that it activated security protocols following a report of a possible bomb threat on an airplane. Special agents inspected the aircraft and luggage but found no evidence of explosives.
In a statement, the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) explained that on Saturday afternoon, a report of a possible bomb threat was filed by the airline Viva Aerobus. The threat concerned aircraft registration XA-VBM and flights VB1029 from Cancún (Mexican Caribbean) and VB1104 from Mérida (Yucatán), in southeastern Mexico, parked at position 13 in Terminal 1.
Following the alert, the AICM indicated that AVSEC (Aviation Security) personnel, who protect civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference such as terrorism, sabotage, or hijacking, at the Mexico City airport, “conducted a search of the aircraft and baggage, finding no evidence of any explosive device.”
AVSEC agents worked together with the Naval Airport Protection Unit through agents from the Search, Location and Neutralization of Explosive Devices (Blonae) team, in coordination with the General Command of the AICM.
