Oaxaca begins May in a red alert! Among the states with the most homicides in a single day.

Oaxaca once again ranked among the states with the highest incidence of intentional homicides in the country, registering four victims in a single day, according to data released by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) for May 1, 2026.

This figure places the state at the highest level of daily violence nationwide, on par with states like Guerrero, Sinaloa, and Veracruz.

In the national context, where 37 homicide victims were reported that day, Oaxaca accounted for approximately 10.8% of the total, a proportion that positions it as a critical point on the country’s violence map.

This data is especially relevant given that it represents a period of just 24 hours, demonstrating a higher level of crime than in other states.

While Oaxaca registered four victims, neighboring states like Chiapas, Puebla, and Morelos reported zero homicides during the same period, highlighting the regional disparity in security.

Even states with more complex histories of violence, such as Guanajuato and Michoacán, reported lower figures on that specific date.

Although the figures correspond to a preliminary daily report, the data gains relevance in a context where Oaxaca has shown recurring episodes of violence in different parts of its territory.

Experts warn that these types of spikes, although seemingly isolated, can reflect local conflict dynamics that are not always visible in monthly or annual averages.

The record of four homicides in a single day places Oaxaca in a momentary “red zone,” but also raises questions about the capacity for prevention and response to violent acts.

The recurrence of these episodes, coupled with comparisons to other states, reinforces the perception that violence not only persists, but also manifests itself unevenly and, at times, unexpectedly.
