The Tabasco Congress approved an amendment to the state’s Mobility Law to regulate and increase transparency in the provision of towing, impound, and vehicle storage services.
The amendments establish a clear distinction between these three services to prevent arbitrary interpretations and abusive practices in pricing.
According to the amendment, the Tabasco Ministry of Mobility will be responsible for defining the on-call schedule, allowing the public to know which companies are operating and how the service is distributed in real time. The Ministry will also be responsible for setting the corresponding rates and publishing them on its official website.
In this regard, it was determined that towing and recovery services will be charged per kilometer, according to pre-authorized fixed rates, while the recovery service will be priced according to its level of complexity.
As a preventative measure against illegally parked vehicles, the use of wheel clamps—commonly known as “boots”—will be prioritized. Only if, after 30 minutes, the violation is neither paid nor the vehicle removed, will a tow truck be used.
Likewise, the regulations stipulate that the removal of vehicles from public roads and their transfer to the impound lot may only be carried out when there is a legally justifiable reason.
Finally, the reform incorporates specific obligations for concessionaires and permit holders, including adherence to the current security guard schedule, issuance of the corresponding tax receipt, and strict compliance with applicable legal provisions.
