The U.S. Treasury Department revealed Friday afternoon that the Mexican resort Kovay Gardens, sanctioned last February for alleged ties to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), continues to defraud U.S. citizens, now using different names.

“Today, the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) updated the names and details associated with Kovay Gardens, a Mexican vacation-share resort sanctioned by OFAC in February 2016 for defrauding Americans on behalf of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel terrorist group,” the department stated on its Twitter account.

The U.S. office stated that, “in an attempt to further evade sanctions and continue defrauding victims, Kovay Gardens is now using the following aliases: (1) Navira Villas & Residences and (2) Marina Oasis Beachfront Resort.”

He added that he is alerting U.S. citizens to be vigilant and aware that these names represent a government-sanctioned entity attempting to defraud them.

Today, the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) updated the names and details associated with Kovay Gardens, a Mexican timeshare resort sanctioned by OFAC in February 2016 for defrauding Americans on behalf of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

On February 19, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned what it called a timeshare fraud network led by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

“The action targets Kovay Gardens, a Mexican timeshare resort, as well as five individuals and 17 Mexican companies associated with the network,” the statement said.

The statement specified that many of these individuals and companies are based in or around Puerto Vallarta, a popular Mexican tourist destination.

It warned that the CJNG is a brutally violent terrorist cartel that continues to diversify its illicit revenue streams beyond drug trafficking, including timeshare fraud and fuel theft.

The statement also notes that these activities generate significant profits for the organization at the expense of its victims, who are U.S. citizens. “Timeshare fraud often targets vulnerable seniors and can defraud victims, robbing them of their life savings,” the U.S. agency stated.

This Friday, the U.S. Treasury Department issued a new alert to its citizens regarding Kovay Gardens scams operating under different names.
