The decision was announced via social media and comes amidst a heat wave that has intensified in San Luis Potosí, particularly in the Huasteca region, where the heat index has reached up to 50 degrees Celsius in recent days. With this measure, state authorities are ruling out, for the time being, changing school start and end times.

The state governor also announced that June 5th will officially be the last day of classes, while the start of the 2026-2027 school year is scheduled for August 17th. During the summer break, summer camps will be held for children and teenagers, offering recreational, sports, and social activities, as well as safe spaces for families in San Luis Potosí.
In recent days, Civil Protection and education authorities were considering suspending in-person classes or canceling outdoor activities due to the risk that high temperatures pose to students, teachers, and administrative staff.
The concern increased after the General Directorate of Epidemiology confirmed cases of dehydration and heatstroke in San Luis Potosí, a situation that raised alarms among parents and school authorities.
For his part, the head of the State Civil Protection Coordination, César Rocha Moreno, had previously indicated that they were maintaining constant monitoring of weather conditions to determine preventative measures as the hot season progressed.
With the early closure of the school year, the State Government seeks to reduce health risks to the student community and prevent more serious problems stemming from the extreme temperatures that continue to be recorded in various areas of San Luis Potosí.
