A worrying wave of criminals impersonating prosecutors or investigators is raising alarms across the country. Dressed in tactical vests, carrying fake IDs, and even using vehicles similar to official ones, these individuals are deceiving, extorting, and even kidnapping innocent citizens.
What’s most outrageous is that this phenomenon is no longer isolated… it’s becoming increasingly common! And the worst part: the authorities seem to be failing to react. Neither the federal government, nor the states, and certainly not the municipalities, have managed to stop this dangerous practice that puts thousands of Mexican families at risk.
Testimonies indicate that many of these fake agents may be former police officers, people who are intimately familiar with the protocols, uniforms, and operating procedures of the real authorities. This allows them to act with greater precision… and also with greater impunity. Recent cases reveal how these criminals set up fake checkpoints, conduct supposed “inspections,” and end up robbing victims of money, vehicles, or even their freedom. All under the guise of an authority they simply are NOT.
Meanwhile, citizens live in fear, not knowing if the person stopping them on the street is truly a law enforcement officer… or just another criminal.
Experts warn: always verify the identity of any authority figure, never hand over documents or money without confirmation, and report any suspicious activity.
How long will these “fake officials” be allowed to continue operating with impunity?
