They promise protection, they assure us that we will be heard and that justice will prevail. But behind the advertising campaigns lies a dark and bloody reality: that of citizens who trusted the law and ended up being betrayed by the very system that swore to protect them.
How can we ask the people to raise their voices when the cost of truth is death or oblivion? Here are the faces of impunity:
MANUEL (PEMEX Engineer): He reported fuel theft (huachicol). He was executed at a traffic light; someone from the Prosecutor’s Office allegedly tipped off the criminals.
EDITH: She was looking for work. When she disappeared, the Prosecutor’s Office asked her mother for money to search for her. She was found dead in the same building where she had sought help.
ANA LUISA: A judge told her she was “exaggerating” when she asked for protection against her ex. That same night, her attacker cut off both her hands with a machete.
WENDY: Stabbed 25 times. The attacker’s family helped clean up the blood and cover up the crime. Today, the accomplices remain free.
HACHI: A tied-up dog was euthanized by authorities in front of everyone. The Mayor’s response? “Animals are replaceable.”
CRISTINA: Her daughter disappeared after being illegally committed to a psychiatric hospital by a “friend.” No one stopped the transfer; today, her whereabouts are unknown.
JUAN JESÚS: A humble young man used as a “scapegoat.” With fabricated evidence, he was sent directly to prison to close the case quickly.
GABY’S BAZAR: She called three times about extortion (protection money). The police never arrived. She had to close her business to save her life.
LEGAL ANALYSIS: THE COLLAPSE OF THE RULE OF LAW
From a legal perspective, we are facing State Responsibility for Omission and Deficiency in the Administration of Justice.
Public safety is not a favor; it is a constitutional obligation.
When a public servant leaks information, dismisses an imminent risk, or conditions justice on payment, they commit crimes ranging from Abuse of Authority to Criminal Complicity.
In the Legal Analysis, these cases demonstrate a systematic violation of the Right to Truth and Justice. The Mexican State is internationally responsible when its institutions fail in their duty of prevention and protection. Reporting crimes is the cornerstone of legality, but without guarantees for the life of the whistleblower, the system becomes a death trap. New laws are not enough; a radical purge of the prosecutor’s offices and courts, where corruption and indifference have taken root, is urgently needed.
