The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office reported the rescue of 11 Mexican women, presumed victims of human trafficking and forced prostitution, during a raid on a bar in Isla Mujeres.

The operation was carried out following a court order at a location on Rueda Medina Avenue. Authorities stated that the women were allegedly forced into prostitution.

According to initial investigations, the victims are single mothers with little formal education. They arrived at the establishment on the recommendation of acquaintances, lured by the promise of quick money.

Initially, they worked as waitresses and hostesses, offering drinks to customers for between 150 and 300 pesos, but were later forced into prostitution for up to 2,500 pesos.

The establishment’s owners kept half of these earnings. In addition, the women had to pay rent for the rooms and faced fines if they missed work.

During the search, agents seized money, documents, condoms, a laptop, and DVDs. The 11 women received support and legal counsel from the Executive Commission for Victim Assistance.
