Security is emerging as the main challenge, but also as the greatest opportunity for transformation in Quintana Roo. According to a survey by Grupo Cantón, 68% of citizens identify insecurity as the most relevant issue, far surpassing areas such as corruption (11%), infrastructure (5%), and public services (4%). This assessment not only reflects concern but also a clear course of action for the next administration.
DEMONSTRATING GREATER RELIABILITY
Other issues such as the economy and employment (2%) and the environment (1%) register less concern, confirming that guaranteeing daily safety and peace of mind is the foundation for promoting the state’s comprehensive development. Regarding the profile of the next governor, citizens demand not only resolve (32%) but also honesty (26%), respect for human rights (13%), and experience (12%).
Added to this are qualities such as approachability (8%) and academic preparation (5%), which point to a balanced leadership: with operational capacity but also with social sensitivity. Although the average safety rating is 5.2, this indicator leaves room for improvement with targeted strategies.
The perception of insecurity in public spaces—streets (82%), ATMs (80%), and highways (75%)—points to areas where actions such as increased police presence, surveillance technology, and inter-institutional coordination can be implemented. Despite these challenges, the state maintains significant strengths.
TOURISM, A STRENGTH
Tourism, the economic engine of Quintana Roo, continues to demonstrate resilience: 49% of citizens perceive improvement, confirming its capacity to sustain economic growth in complex contexts.
The government led by Mara Lezama has been recognized for promoting this sector, laying the groundwork that can be complemented by a more robust security strategy to boost the confidence of both residents and visitors. Thus, Quintana Roo faces a crucial juncture: transforming the security challenge into a driving force for development that consolidates its progress.
FOR GREATER COMPETITIVENESS
With effective public policies, investment in prevention, and citizen participation, the state has the opportunity to strengthen its competitiveness, raise the quality of life, and reaffirm its position as one of the country’s most important destinations.
