Federal Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez reported that during the first quarter of 2026, foreign exchange earnings from international travelers reached $10.287 billion, representing a 0.2 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) highlighted that, based on the results of the International Travelers Survey (EVI) from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 12,660,000 international tourists arrived in the country between January and March 2026, a figure 6.7 percent higher year-over-year.
“In an international context marked by significant economic and geopolitical challenges, tourism in Mexico maintains a positive trend, reflecting the strength, resilience, and confidence that our country inspires among international travelers,” she stated.
She emphasized that during March 2026, Mexico achieved record highs in various tourism indicators. The arrival of 4.49 million international tourists was recorded, representing a 6.4 percent increase compared to March 2019, which had previously held the record for the highest number of international tourists for that month.
The Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) added that a record high was also reached in the cruise segment, with the arrival of 1.3 million passengers, a figure 14.9 percent higher than that recorded in March 2015. This also generated an economic impact of $113.8 million, representing a 17.7 percent increase over the previous record for the same month.
Sectur reiterated that it will continue to strengthen promotional efforts, diversify markets, and consolidate new tourism products, with the goal of increasing visitor arrivals and ensuring that the benefits of tourism reach more communities throughout the country.
“Mexico is experiencing a moment of international recognition and a strengthening of its global image, which is reflected in the growing confidence of visitors who choose our country to discover its cultural, natural, and tourist riches,” stated the head of the Ministry of Tourism.
The tourism industry in Mexico anticipates the arrival of 836,000 additional visitors to the country for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to estimates presented in a study conducted by Deloitte.
