“The packages are well wrapped”… Elements of the Mexican Navy (Semar) seized 13 brick-shaped packages and one more containing cocaine, which were floating in the sea off Huatulco, Oaxaca.
According to the Semar, during naval surveillance operations in Mexican Pacific waters, Navy personnel detected several packages floating in the sea. Upon inspection, they found a substance inside with characteristics similar to cocaine.
The seized drugs were transferred to the port of Huatulco, where they were placed at the disposal of the corresponding Public Prosecutor, the authority that will conduct the investigations and determine the official weight of the shipment.
As part of the efforts to combat drug trafficking by sea, members of the Mexican Navy (@SEMAR_mx), in coordination with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (@SSPCMexico) and the Attorney General’s Office (@FGRMexico), seized 13 packages and one bundle of cocaine 248 nautical miles southwest of Huatulco, Oaxaca.
This seizure, it was noted, adds to the 65.5 tons of suspected drugs seized at sea during Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration.
The discovery occurred during maritime surveillance patrols and Coast Guard operations carried out in coordination with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), approximately 248 nautical miles southwest of Huatulco.
On May 9, the Mexican Navy (Semar) seized a vessel with 26 bundles of suspected cocaine off the coast of Guerrero and arrested two foreigners after a chase at sea.
With this action, the total number of drug seizures in four maritime operations in one week reaches 89.
Coast Guard agents seized a small vessel with three outboard motors in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Guerrero, arrested two foreign nationals (whose nationalities were not specified), and confiscated 26 packages of a substance with characteristics similar to cocaine.
This followed an investigation that tracked the vessel from 361 nautical miles (668 kilometers) south-southwest of Acapulco, Guerrero, to its arrival on the coast of Arroyo Seco, in the municipality of Petatlán, also in Guerrero.
This marks the fourth consecutive seizure of illicit substances at sea in a week, representing a significant blow to the operational and financial capabilities of organized crime.
