“The violence of the Ardillos has left dead and displaced families. We live in great fear, while the authorities have abandoned us since April 27. The criminals have returned to Totolapa, Zoyaltepec, Huixtlatzala, Totoltemec, Mexcaltepec, and Meyoltepec. To this day, they continue firing bullets and bombs. They have already entered the town, burned houses, and endangered women and children. We hold the community police of San Juan Escalerilla, Evelyn Salgado, and Claudia Sheinbaum responsible for any harm that our community suffers. We ask for urgent support,” denounced one of the women who contacted Tlachinollan.

The attacks, according to the testimony disseminated by Tlachinollan, began on April 27, but intensified on the night of Wednesday, May 13.

In a video circulating on social media, a group of women and children can be seen pleading for help from the authorities.

“All of us women and children are at the police station, having not slept because we’re afraid the criminals will come. There’s no one to help us. We’ve already called the battalion, 911, and all they tell us is ‘we’ll call back,’ but nothing ever happens. We wake up every day with this anguish,” one woman lamented.
