In light of the onset of the rainy season and the presence of cold fronts, the community of Lázaro Cárdenas—in coordination with the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP)—has announced the temporary closure of the Arco del Tiempo ecotourism center to safeguard visitor safety.
Daniel Ovando Valencia, President of the Chiapas College of Tourist Guides, explained that current weather conditions pose a risk to those seeking to enter this natural area.
“Weather shifts, rainfall, and—above all—cold fronts jeopardize visits to this site,” he noted.
He indicated that access to the site is directly controlled by local community members and that the decision to close the area stems from an agreement established jointly with CONANP to prevent accidents or tragedies.
The representative for the tourist guides pointed out that restrictions were already in place to preserve safety and the natural environment—such as limits on the number of visitors permitted to stay overnight in the area.
Furthermore, he urged tourists not to be misled by agencies or individuals offering tours during this season, as these may constitute unauthorized services or scams.
“One must be cautious, as these are agencies that would not be adhering to the established agreements,” he warned.
Finally, he requested that visitors respect the community’s regulations and wait until weather conditions once again permit visits to the Arco del Tiempo.
