A major operation led by state and federal forces resulted in the deaths of three alleged members of a criminal group in the Purépecha Plateau region, where residents had reported constant violence and the presence of armed men.
According to initial reports, the events occurred during a security deployment in communities in the mountainous area, following numerous reports of armed individuals allegedly pressuring and harassing Purépecha residents.
After the confrontation, authorities seized high-powered firearms, magazines, ammunition, tactical gear, and various patches with Colombian flags, leading to speculation about the possible involvement of foreign nationals in criminal activities within the region.
Preliminary sources indicate that the alleged assailants attempted to attack security forces during the operation, triggering an exchange of gunfire that resulted in the deaths of three armed civilians.
The presence of armed men in the Purépecha Plateau had instilled fear among residents of various communities, who in recent weeks reported roadblocks, threats, and constant movements of criminal groups on roads and in mountainous areas.
Following the incident, security forces reinforced patrols in the region to prevent further violence, while authorities continue their investigation to determine the identities of the deceased.
To date, no federal authority has officially confirmed the nationality of the alleged criminals; however, it is widely believed that they were Colombian citizens, and the discovery of insignia and patches alluding to Colombia keeps this line of investigation open.
