The recent extradition of two high-ranking former officials from the Sinaloa state government to U.S. authorities has set off alarm bells at the highest levels of the Mexican federal administration. According to journalist Carlos Loret de Mola, the appearance of Enrique Díaz Vega, former Secretary of Administration and Finance under Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, represents a critical threat to the ruling party due to the information he possesses regarding the handling of resources.

The political analyst maintains that the data in Díaz Vega’s hands is “a goldmine for the Trump administration and, at the same time, a weapon against Claudia Sheinbaum’s government,” given his strategic role in the disbursement of public funds and cash.

The core of the federal government’s concern lies in the alleged financial ties that Díaz Vega maintained with Juan Pablo de Botton Falcón, the current Secretary of Administration and Finance for Mexico City. According to Riva Palacio’s column, this official allegedly acted as the conduit for receiving state funds earmarked for electoral campaigns.

“This man was the link that facilitated the flow of money delivered on behalf of Sinaloa by Enrique Díaz Vega for the 2024 campaigns of Claudia Sheinbaum and Clara Brugada,” the journalist states, citing sources within the federal and Sinaloa state governments.

The article indicates that De Botton’s activities were fully known within the upper echelons of the ruling party, which is why there is fear regarding potential revelations that may emerge in U.S. courts.

Juan Pablo de Botton’s prominence in the organizational structure of the so-called Fourth Transformation (4T) is directly linked to his close relationship with Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of the former president of Mexico. Riva Palacio emphasizes that De Botton held positions of high fiscal and financial responsibility throughout the previous six-year term, including Undersecretary of Expenditures at the Ministry of Finance and a key position in the Tax Administration Service (SAT).

“It’s not 100% Andy’s doing… it’s 200% Andy’s doing. Andy has been placing him in key positions since his father came to power,” the column details.

Currently, the Mexico City Finance Ministry, under the leadership of Clara Brugada, is accusing the official of coordinating substantial aspects of the political movement’s financial relations and payroll.

Potential Impact in New York Courts

The extradition of the former Sinaloa officials occurs within a context of high bilateral tension. The possibility that De Botton Falcón’s name will be included in U.S. court records is described by Loret de Mola as a potentially devastating blow to the current administration’s political stability.

“If that name appears in New York courts, it would be a nuclear bombshell for the Mexican government. Not only because of the role he played in campaign financing but also because of the high-profile financial positions he held in the federal public administration,” the author warns.

Despite official statements made at the Presidential morning press conferences insisting on a lack of concern regarding investigations abroad, revelations from journalistic sources point to a scenario of high internal tension within the ruling party.
