Lauro Arce, Director of Fairs, Shows, and Tourist Attractions for the Government of Durango, highlighted that the Ojuela Bridge continues to solidify its position as one of the state’s premier tourist attractions, thanks to growing interest from both domestic and international visitors.
The official noted that this iconic tourist site, located in the municipality of Mapimí, maintains a significant influx of visitors during weekends and holiday seasons, generating positive economic benefits for the semi-desert region of Durango.
He indicated that the state government’s objective is to continue strengthening the tourism promotion of the Ojuela Bridge through recreational and cultural activities, as well as outreach strategies designed to increase visitor numbers.
He stated that since 2023, more than two million pesos have been invested in various initiatives and infrastructure projects at the Ojuela Bridge Tourist Park in the municipality of Mapimí, Durango.
The funds utilized for these projects were derived from the revenue generated by the park itself. These funds were initially used to install a new zip line and to implement—in a first phase—an interior lighting system extending over 400 meters into the mine. More recently, a water supply system was installed in the restroom area; previously, water had to be hauled in using a tanker truck.
Lauro Arce emphasized that the Ojuela Bridge is nationally recognized for its historical, architectural, and cultural significance, and is widely regarded as one of the most iconic suspension bridges in northern Mexico.
He explained that the site offers a unique experience for tourists, owing to its historical ties to the former mining community of Ojuela, as well as the panoramic views it provides of the surrounding desert landscape.
The official added that ongoing efforts are dedicated to maintaining the facilities and ensuring visitor safety, with the aim of guaranteeing a secure and engaging experience for the families who visit the site.
The Director of Fairs, Shows, and Tourist Attractions noted that, in addition to bolstering the promotion of the Ojuela Bridge, strategies are also being developed to boost other tourist destinations within Durango—particularly those focused on nature, history, and adventure tourism. He highlighted that tourism represents a key economic activity for various regions of the state; consequently, efforts are underway to expand the range of tourist excursions and enhance the visitor experience.
Finally, Lauro Arce reiterated the invitation for both local and out-of-town tourists to visit the Ojuela Bridge, considered one of the most emblematic and representative sites in Durango.
