A total of 90 people, paddleboarding and kayaking in the Gulf of Mexico, were stranded due to strong winds and had to be rescued by boat operators and civil protection personnel.

The incident, which occurred off the coast of the Veracruz-Boca del Río metropolitan area, left 16 people with injuries or nervous breakdowns, requiring medical attention: two with nervous breakdowns and 14 with sea urchin stings.

At sea, they fell from their kayaks and boards, and a large group had to cling to a buoy near Isla de Sacrificios, amidst nervous breakdowns and a lack of support.

Boat operators and service providers came to help, later joined by municipal civil protection personnel, who managed to rescue the 90 people who had hired the services of the companies Bruma, Mango Paddle, and Conoce Veracruz.

Those affected reported that the companies lacked assistance protocols and, at the time of the emergency, were more concerned with the boards, paddles, and kayaks.

According to municipal reports, although a total of 16 people received medical attention, none required hospitalization and all were able to leave on their own.
