The Secretary of Tourism for the Mexican government, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that during the period of January to April 2026, the country’s ports received 4.8 million cruise passengers, representing a 14.8 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.
She also specified that during that same period, 1,425 cruise ship arrivals were recorded at the country’s various ports, a figure that represents a 10 percent increase compared to the first four months of last year.
“The arrival of cruise ships generates direct benefits for host communities by boosting consumption in restaurants, shops, tourist services, transportation, and recreational activities, in addition to contributing to job creation in ports and tourist destinations,” she emphasized.
Based on information from the Mexican Navy (SEMAR), the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) highlighted that these results reflect Mexico’s strength as an international tourist destination and the importance of cruise ship activity for the economic development of various destinations throughout the country.
Rodríguez Zamora specified that the Pacific region registered 1,708,341 passengers and 540 arrivals, representing increases of 39.9 percent and 22.4 percent, respectively.
She added that within this region, Puerto Chiapas, Chiapas, stood out, registering increases of 83.3 percent in arrivals and 80.5 percent in passengers, consolidating its position as one of the fastest-growing ports in the country.
The report also indicated that the Gulf-Caribbean region recorded 3.1 million passengers and 885 arrivals during the first four months of 2026, representing increases of 4.6 percent in passengers and 3.5 percent in arrivals compared to the same period in 2025.
Finally, it detailed that the port of Cozumel, Quintana Roo, registered 1,987,695 passengers and 571 arrivals, with growth of 7.1 percent and 5.2 percent, respectively.
