For the second consecutive day, clashes between organized crime groups have led to road closures and blockades in Cotija.

The Public Security Secretariat reported the blockades in four locations within the municipality via its official social media accounts.

“Traffic Alert. A blockade has been reported on the Cotija-Emiliano Zapata highway, causing disruptions,” the post stated.

The C5 Michoacán account listed the following locations:

Near the community of Los Zapotes.

At the turnoff/junction to the town of La Esperanza.

In the vicinity of the community of El Paso.

In the area corresponding to the town of Emiliano Zapata.

According to reports from authorities, in the last 24 hours there have been attacks with drones and explosives, as well as exchanges of gunfire on the border with the state of Jalisco.

In response to this situation, the Secretariat of Public Security and the National Defense deployed an operation towards that region of the state.
