Tamaulipas promotes BRT, highways and energy projects in the south of the state

The Governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal Anaya, highlighted progress on strategic projects for the southern part of the state, including the BRT transportation system, highway construction, wastewater treatment, and energy development. These topics were addressed during the program “Dialogues with Américo.”

The governor affirmed that coordination between federal, state, and municipal governments has enabled the advancement of projects to strengthen mobility, tourism, and infrastructure in municipalities such as Tampico, Ciudad Madero, and Altamira.

Américo Villarreal explained that the BRT Transportation System project already has a budget approved by Banobras (National Bank of Public Works and Services) and includes participation from the state government and concessionaires.

The governor indicated that the mobility system in the southern part of the state is connected to the new Mante-Ocampo-Tula highway, as well as the Ciudad Mante bypass and a 4.3-kilometer elevated viaduct over Hidalgo Avenue in Tampico.

He also noted that these projects will be integrated into the new four-lane highway between Tampico and Reynosa, announced by Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum.

Among the projects mentioned, he highlighted the restoration of the La Esperanza bridge in Altamira, an infrastructure project that remained unfinished for over a decade.

Tamaulipas focuses on energy, water, and tourism

The state governor affirmed that Tamaulipas remains the second state with the greatest energy production capacity in Mexico, driven by wind, solar, and combined-cycle power plant projects.

He also explained that the electrification program is progressing in municipalities such as Villa de Casas and Díaz Ordaz, while the solar panel project continues in the San José ejido, within the El Cielo Biosphere Reserve.

Regarding water resources, the state government is working with industry to develop a comprehensive wastewater treatment plant for the southern metropolitan area of ​​Tamaulipas.

Regarding tourism, Villarreal highlighted the arrival of more than 3 million visitors during Holy Week, as part of the “Safe Tamaulipas, You’ll Fall in Love” strategy. Finally, he mentioned that the 2026 Peace Index ranked Tamaulipas among the 10 safest states in the country.
