With over 50 exhibitors, a program featuring more than 100 cultural, artistic, and educational activities, and Korea as the guest of honor, the third edition of the San Miguel de Allende International Book Fair (FILSMA) has begun. The fair will also host the 11th annual Korean Culture Festival, “Oullim.”
This year, the International Book Fair is being held around the main garden, bringing book presentations, film screenings, workshops, talks, and book sales closer to locals and visitors alike.

“I wish to express our sincere gratitude for the warm invitation extended to the Republic of Korea as the guest of honor at this year’s fair. We accept this distinction with gratitude and a firm commitment to sharing the best of our culture. Literature is a bridge that unites hearts, transcends borders, and allows us to understand the experiences, dreams, and memories of other peoples,” said Soo Yi Min, head of the Korean Cultural Center in Mexico.
With Korea’s presence at this book fair, the aim is to introduce the Mexican public to the richness and diversity of Korean literature, encompassing everything from classic works to contemporary voices that are engaging with the world today. “Through words, we seek to forge deeper bonds of understanding and friendship between our nations… Mexican readers will be able to discover the soul of Korea, its dreams, its challenges, and its profound humanity,” shared Jooil Lee, the Korean Ambassador to Mexico.
The event, which will take place from May 29 to June 7, was formally inaugurated by Mayor Mauricio Trejo Pureco, who called on people of all ages to read, as this activity will allow them to develop better conversations, improve their spelling, and delve into different worlds.
