Scorpion Sting Cases Reach 37,218 in Guanajuato So Far This Year
There have been 37,218 cases of scorpion stings so far this year, according to information from the Guanajuato Ministry of Health.
Given this situation, the Guanajuato Ministry of Health reports that after any scorpion sting, people should immediately go to health centers and hospitals in all 46 municipalities of the state to receive timely medical attention and, if necessary, the administration of antiscorpion serum, which is sufficiently stocked throughout the state’s health network.
The state agency explains that when a scorpion stings, it injects venom that can cause symptoms ranging from pain, swelling, and redness in the affected area to nausea, vomiting, or breathing difficulties.
In these cases, the affected person should immediately go to the nearest health facility to receive appropriate medical attention.
The Guanajuato Ministry of Health recommends taking preventive measures, such as keeping living spaces clean, checking corners and storage areas to identify possible scorpion hiding places, and carrying out periodic fumigation to help reduce the presence of these arachnids.
It also urges residents to repair cracks in walls and surfaces, as well as paint surfaces with light colors to make these animals easier to detect. Among the warning symptoms following a scorpion sting are intense pain in the affected area, tingling, a sensation of having a foreign object in the throat, excessive salivation, and blurred vision.
