Federal authorities located a tunnel in Tijuana, Baja California, approximately 265 meters long and 6.30 meters deep, along with operational infrastructure including lighting and ventilation, and an electronic sliding mechanism that allows passage in both directions from Mexico to the United States.
This discovery was made possible through intelligence work by agents of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
Agents from the FGR’s Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), as part of an investigation being conducted with the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) in Baja California, executed a search warrant at a residence in the Nueva Tijuana neighborhood for violations of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives and the General Health Law.
The officers arrived at the property and determined that it was possibly being used as a storage, logistics, and trafficking center for weapons, explosives, and illicit substances, after finding cartridges, suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, cell phones, and various documents.
In a statement, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported that this action represents a direct blow to the operation, transport routes, and logistical schemes used for drug trafficking, strengthening lines of investigation and institutional capabilities to combat criminal organizations dedicated to these types of illicit activities.
According to the investigation, the tunnel likely connects to a well-known street in San Diego, California.
The evidence and the property were secured and placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) in Baja California, which will continue the investigation.
