Less than 48 hours before the start of the indefinite strike called by the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), Section 22 planned a day of reorganization for the encampment they maintain across at least 40 blocks of Oaxaca’s Historic Center on Saturday, May 30.
In addition, the dissident teachers called an extraordinary state assembly at the “Enedino Jiménez” auditorium of the Casa del Magisterio hotel, where they would finalize the union’s position regarding the second phase of the mobilization that began on May 25.
The assembly was scheduled for 1:00 p.m., but had not yet begun by 3:00 p.m.
Since the previous night, the teachers had begun regrouping their encampment located in the Zócalo, Alameda, and surrounding streets in order to continue their demonstration. For its part, the leadership announced that union representatives are summoned for this afternoon to hold an Extraordinary State Assembly.
“You are urged to respond responsibly and punctually to this call to strengthen our Democratic Movement of Education Workers of Oaxaca,” the announcement states.
The sectors summoned include the full Sectional Executive Committee, the State Coordinating Committee of Education Workers of Oaxaca, Auxiliary Organizations and Spaces Won by the MDTEO in Resistance, Delegation Committees, Coordinating Committees, Representatives of Union Work Centers, members of the National Revolutionary Action Movement (ANER), and APPO Councilors.
