Excellent news has arrived for tourism in Guerrero: this summer, travelers will have more options to enjoy some of Mexico’s most attractive beach destinations thanks to the opening of two new air routes from Puebla to Zihuatanejo and from Querétaro to Acapulco, which began operations today, June 2nd.

These new connections represent an important step in strengthening the state’s air connectivity and facilitating the arrival of visitors from central Mexico. These new routes serve the Acapulco and Ixtapa Zihuatanejo airports.

According to those in charge of operating these flights, the strategy is showing positive results. During the first four months of 2026, the Acapulco and Ixtapa Zihuatanejo airports registered a combined growth of 7.1% in passenger arrivals compared to the same period of the previous year.

Each of these destinations offers unique experiences for those seeking culture, history, gastronomy, or relaxation by the sea. In Puebla, visitors can explore its historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, admire the majestic Cathedral, and enjoy its renowned cuisine, which features mole poblano and traditional chiles en nogada.

Querétaro captivates with its colonial streets, lively plazas, and iconic aqueduct. It also serves as the gateway to the famous Cheese and Wine Route, ideal for those seeking gastronomic and wine tourism experiences.

Acapulco remains one of Mexico’s most iconic beach destinations, with attractions including La Quebrada, the Costera Miguel Alemán, Santa Lucía Bay, and various beaches for water sports and enjoying spectacular sunsets.

Zihuatanejo charms visitors with its relaxed atmosphere, and its main attractions include Playa la Ropa, Playa las Gatas, and the Paseo del Pescador (Fisherman’s Walk). Nearby is Ixtapa, where you can enjoy activities such as bike rides, snorkeling, marine wildlife viewing, and boat tours.

Recommendations for flying during the summer

Summer in Mexico is typically one of the busiest times of year at airports, so planning ahead can make a big difference to your travel experience. It’s recommended to arrive at the airport at least two hours early for domestic flights, especially during peak season.

Before leaving home, it’s important to check your flight status and check in online whenever possible, which saves time and avoids unnecessary lines. It’s also advisable to review the airline’s baggage policies to avoid additional charges or check-in issues.

For a comfortable trip, it’s recommended to wear light clothing and comfortable shoes, stay hydrated during the flight, and bring reusable water bottles, headphones, books, or devices with downloaded entertainment to help you enjoy the journey.

Don’t forget to have your identification, boarding passes, and hotel reservations on hand. If you’re traveling with minors, it’s important to check the documentation requirements beforehand.
