Stress, andropause, and genetic factors can cause hair loss and baldness in men, which can begin between the ages of 20 and 30.
Baldness affects approximately 50% of adult men in Mexico and is a genetic and hormonal disorder. To stop its progression or restore hair density, a medical diagnosis and various treatments available on the market are necessary.
In this regard, Cancún seeks to position itself among tourist destinations that offer comprehensive hair restoration treatments, stated Dr. Nazly Méndez González, a specialist in the field.
In Mexico, around 13 million men suffer from alopecia, and the country ranks among the top 15 with the most bald men worldwide.
Between 80 and 90 percent of cases are due to genetic inheritance, but stress and the onset of andropause are other factors that must be taken into account.
While various treatments exist, from shampoos and creams to vitamin ampoules and prostheses, one of the most successful worldwide, originating in Turkey, is hair transplantation.
“Cancun will mark a milestone in the destination’s health and wellness offerings by having a center that integrates advanced diagnostics and personalized protocols for this procedure,” he said.
He noted that these types of treatments in Europe and the United States can cost up to $25,000, not including travel and lodging, while in Cancun the treatment would cost half that, undoubtedly activating a new segment of medical tourism.
“Part of the project is to create packages for national and international tourists so that instead of traveling abroad for the treatment, they can have it done in this tourist destination,” he stated.
He added that Europe, and Turkey in particular, are currently the leading centers for these types of hair treatments.
He noted that a hybrid technique, inspired by Turkish standards, would be implemented in Cancún. This technique allows for the extraction and implantation to be tailored to each patient’s specific needs, achieving natural and aesthetic results through personalized design.
He explained that partnerships will be maintained with travel agencies and insurance companies to offer tourists a comprehensive service and thus reach at least 40% international patients.
