Colima remains the least peaceful state nationwide: IEP

The state of Colima remained the least peaceful state in the country for the fourth consecutive year. Despite a significant decrease in homicides in 2025, the state again registered the worst homicide rate in the country, with 74.1 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, according to statistics from the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

After Colima, the least peaceful states in Mexico last year were Sinaloa, Guanajuato, Morelos, and Baja California.

Yucatán was the most peaceful state for the ninth consecutive year, followed by Chiapas, Tlaxcala, Durango, and Campeche.

According to these statistics, Colima has registered the greatest decline in peace since 2015. It has experienced deterioration in all indicators of the Peace Index (PI), with rates that in some cases have increased more than fivefold.

After Colima, the greatest declines in peace since 2015 were recorded in Guanajuato, Sinaloa, Morelos, and Quintana Roo.

During the same period, Tamaulipas registered the greatest overall improvement in its peace rating, followed by Guerrero, Durango, Coahuila, and Yucatán. Since 2015, peace has deteriorated in 23 states and improved in nine.

Since 2015, 24 states have registered an increase in the economic impact of violence, averaging 50.6%, while only eight states registered decreases, with an average reduction of 23.8%.
