Two alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) were killed during a joint operation in Colima after security personnel were attacked and returned fire, according to the State Coordination Council for Peace and Security.

The intervention was carried out jointly by the Colima State Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the Secretariat of the Navy, and the State Attorney General’s Office. The agencies conducted operations that resulted in the seizure of an arsenal consisting of weapons, ammunition, grenades, magazines, tactical equipment, and drugs.

According to the official report, no personnel from the participating institutions were injured during the confrontation.

Among the items seized were more than 2,500 rounds of ammunition of different calibers, corresponding to long and short firearms, as well as five handguns and two fragmentation grenades.

The operation also led to the discovery of approximately 25 AK-47 rifle magazines and 60 magazines for 5.56-caliber weapons, in addition to three 9-millimeter handguns and two other weapons of the same caliber that were found next to the two men who died during the attack.

Human Remains Found During the Operation

One of the findings that opened a new line of investigation was the discovery of human remains within the area where the operation took place.

The State Coordination Council stated that the identity of the person and the circumstances surrounding their death will be established through forensic examinations and the corresponding investigations.

The remains were placed under the custody of the prosecutorial authorities, who will determine whether there is any connection to other cases of disappearance or homicide reported in Colima.

In addition to the weapons and ammunition, authorities seized plate carriers, tactical equipment, communication devices, and packages containing green plant material with characteristics similar to marijuana.

Among the evidence, particular attention was drawn to the discovery of 20 insignia bearing initials and phrases attributed to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, a criminal organization with a presence in various regions of the state.

During the investigation, authorities also seized six vehicle license plates belonging to different states of Mexico.

According to intelligence information held by the agencies, one of the plates was allegedly connected to the homicide of a person who served as an adviser and Director of Intelligence for the Colima Secretariat of Public Security during the previous state administration.

The State Attorney General’s Office will be responsible for analyzing the evidence and determining its origin, as well as establishing whether there is any connection to that homicide or to other criminal incidents reported in the state.

The discovery could open new lines of investigation into the activities of criminal groups in Colima, particularly because of the possible connection between the items found and previously reported high-impact cases in the state.

Equipment Used by Criminal Groups Seized

The operation resulted in the removal from circulation of two fragmentation grenades, as well as dozens of magazines, weapons, and tactical equipment that, according to authorities, could have been part of the logistical capabilities used by criminal organizations.

All evidence was turned over to the competent prosecutorial authorities, who will continue investigating to determine its origin and possible connection to other crimes.

State and federal authorities reported that they will maintain coordinated operations throughout the state as part of efforts aimed at disrupting the logistical and operational capabilities of criminal organizations, both in the capital and in other municipalities.

So far, the official report does not identify the two men who died during the confrontation or publicly specify the exact property where the operation took place.
