The head of the agency, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, stated in a press release that the new connections reflect “the airlines’ confidence” in Mexico’s tourism and economic potential, as well as bringing opportunities for development, investment, and well-being to more destinations and communities.
Among the domestic routes, the connections between the resort city of Acapulco and the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), Acapulco and Querétaro, Puebla and Los Cabos, Puebla and Huatulco, Puerto Escondido and Tijuana, Querétaro and Oaxaca, as well as Monterrey and San Luis Potosí stand out.
The Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) maintained that these connections aim to boost domestic tourism by making it easier for more Mexicans to reach different destinations within the country, particularly regions offering beaches, culture, nature, and business opportunities.
Internationally, the new routes include connections from AIFA to Cartagena and Medellín, Colombia; Monterrey and Madrid, Spain; and Cancún and Brasilia, Brazil. Guadalajara-Detroit, Los Cabos-Las Vegas, Monterrey-New York, and Puebla-Los Angeles, in the United States.
Rodríguez Zamora pointed out that the international routes will contribute to increasing the flow of visitors, strengthening tourism and trade, and diversifying the source markets for Mexico, one of the most visited countries in the world.
The new operations were launched by Aeroméxico, Gol, Iberia, Mexicana de Aviación, Southwest, Viva Aerobus, and Volaris, according to the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).
The Secretary of Tourism affirmed that international connections help consolidate Mexico’s presence in priority markets and attract visitors from new regions, while domestic routes expand travel possibilities within the country.
As of the end of June 2026, Mexico has registered a total of 102 announcements of new air routes, a result, according to Sectur, of the coordinated work between the federal government, airlines, and state governments.
The agency stated that the goal is to consolidate the country as a tourism powerhouse and ensure that the benefits of this activity reach a greater number of regions and communities.
