In a presentation highlighting progress in the sector, the head of the Ministry of Tourism and Economy (SETUE), Maribel Collins Sánchez, emphasized that Baja California Sur has surpassed 21 million air passengers between 2021 and 2025, maintaining a steady growth trend in tourism.
According to the official’s presentation, this represents a 73 percent increase compared to the previous state administration, headed by former PAN governor Carlos Mendoza Davis.
In this context, Maribel Collins Sánchez stressed that during this six-year term, a total of 76 new air routes were established, 42 of which were international and 34 domestic.
She highlighted the importance of the new flights connecting Los Cabos with Frankfurt, Germany, and Panama, routes that maintain an occupancy rate exceeding 70 percent, according to the data presented by the official.
In presenting this data, Maribel Collins maintains that the indicators demonstrate Baja California Sur’s leading position in tourism, noting that between 2021 and 2025, the state generated over 120 billion pesos in revenue.
She emphasized that this is a consequence of tourism growth, highlighting that the state has also solidified its position as a preferred destination for international sporting events.
She recalled that in the first quarter of 2026, the Tour de France, Ironman, and Triathlon took place, with over 3,500 participating athletes, events that generated more than 100 million pesos in revenue.
Furthermore, she mentioned that this year’s Spring Break also set records. During the spring break, more than 55,000 visitors were recorded, primarily international students, generating over 50 million dollars in revenue during this period.
The Spring Brea 2026 season also set record numbers, with more than 55,000 visitors and an economic impact exceeding $50 million.
“Air connectivity is essential not only for tourism, for those who visit us, but also for the residents of Baja California Sur who travel for various reasons… this work is always carried out in coordination with the private sector and the trusts, which are so important and play such a vital role,” he stated.
