The Yucatán Water and Sewerage Board (JAPAY) issued an urgent report on June 23, 2026, regarding severe technical complications at the Mérida I Water Treatment Plant. These problems are related to power outages.
The power outages are affecting the plant, which in turn has caused water supply problems in dozens of neighborhoods and subdivisions in the central, eastern, and southern parts of the Yucatecan capital. The agency explained that this problem could lead to low water pressure or a complete lack of water service.
The agency reported that the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is already working intensively in the area to resolve the electrical problems and restore service as soon as possible so that those affected can have their water supply restored.
