Aguascalientes is the state with the second-highest price increase in the country.

Although inflation eased at the national level, Aguascalientes ranked second among states with the highest upward inflationary movement during the first half of June 2026. According to the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) published by INEGI, the state recorded a bi-weekly increase of 0.13%—a figure that contrasts with the downward trend reported in the national average.

With this result, both the state and the city of Aguascalientes firmly positioned themselves among the regions pushing the indicator above the national average, surpassed only by the state of Quintana Roo, which saw a 0.31% rise.

Why did prices rise in the state?

The increase in costs in the region aligns with the behavior of the national core price index—which excludes highly volatile products—and rose 0.19% on a bi-weekly basis.

At the sectoral level, the general report (available in full in the file inpc_1q2026_06.docx) highlights significant pressure on services, which increased by 0.27%, as well as on certain key seasonal items that directly impacted local consumers:

Transport and tourism: Air travel (+13.75%) and hotels (+8.73%) showed double-digit increases.

Essential foods: Avocado prices surged by 18.51%, followed by potatoes and other tubers, which rose by 5.76%.

The pressure observed in Aguascalientes occurs against a backdrop where the national average posted negative figures. Nationally, the INPC fell by 0.11% compared to the previous two-week period, bringing Mexico’s general annual inflation rate to 3.55%. This figure represents considerable relief compared to the 4.51% recorded during the same period in 2025.

This nationwide easing was largely driven by a sharp drop in prices within the non-core component, where fruit and vegetable prices fell by an average of 5.24%; notable declines were seen in products such as tomatoes (-23.98%), poblano peppers (-28.33%), and eggs (-4.51%). However, the benefit of these lower agricultural costs was not enough to offset internal inflationary pressures in Aguascalientes.
