The alleged “Vía Atlixcáyotl Shooter” or “Sniper” in Puebla does not fire from buildings, Vice Admiral Francisco Sánchez González, head of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), reported on Friday.
What else is known about the “Vía Atlixcáyotl Shooter”?
In an interview, Sánchez González indicated that it has not yet been determined whether the attacks are being committed by a single person or by several individuals. However, he noted that a possible modus operandi has been identified.
According to the official, the alleged attacker arrives at Vía Atlixcáyotl and positions himself at a specific point along the roadway to fire the shots. He may arrive on foot or in a vehicle.
He also explained that there is no defined pattern, as the times and locations of the attacks vary; consequently, investigations are ongoing to locate the person or persons responsible.
“Initially, we thought the shots were coming from a building, but I can tell you that isn’t the case. The locations and times vary greatly; there is no fixed pattern. This person might walk and position himself at a spot along the avenue, or he might be in a vehicle. We mapped out a route based on the 10 cases we have and tracked where this person might live, and that is something we are taking into account,” he stated.
Investigations continue
On June 20, the Puebla State Attorney General’s Office reported that it was conducting investigations to locate the person allegedly responsible for shooting at vehicles traveling along Vía Atlixcáyotl.
Victims reported hearing loud noises or feeling impacts on their vehicles while driving; upon inspection, they discovered holes in side windows, windshields, rear windows, and bodywork, apparently caused by bullets. To date, 11 formal complaints have been filed.
