Monterrey-based influencer Aldo de Nigris shared his experience visiting Nusr-Et, the Turkish steakhouse chain owned by renowned chef Salt Bae, famous worldwide for his unique way of sprinkling salt on his dishes.
In a video, the content creator recounted how a visit he expected to be “peaceful” ended with a bill exceeding 40,000 pesos. He decided to share his story to warn others planning to visit the restaurant.
According to Aldo, it all happened during a stay in Mexico City. He explained that he was at his hotel and had already eaten chicken and rice in his room when he received a call from some friends who told him they had a reservation at the exclusive restaurant.
Driven by curiosity to experience the famous chef’s establishment, he agreed to join them.
He said his plan was to order just a salmon and a drink, something “quiet,” since he had already eaten dinner, so he expected the bill to be between 2,000 and 2,500 pesos, considering the restaurant’s prestige and luxury.
However, he said that things took a different turn from the moment he arrived.
He recounted that several people recognized him and asked for photos, which caught Salt Bae’s attention, who decided to attend to him personally.
According to him, the chef greeted him, hugged him, took photos with him, and instructed the waiters that he would personally select the meat, while the staff would only handle the drinks.
Although at first the gesture seemed kind and personalized, he later asserted that it was actually a strategy, as the bill ended up being more than 36,000 pesos, and with the tip, the total exceeded 40,000 pesos.
“I’m not someone who likes to waste money on stupid things, and spending 40,000 pesos at a restaurant seems like a huge rip-off to me,” he said.
The influencer even revealed that, after the meal, some waiters confessed to him that this was the chef’s modus operandi.
According to him, Salt Bae tends to approach certain tables, personally attend to the customers, and choose the cuts of meat, giving the impression that he’s offering special attention or even a complimentary gift, when in reality he ends up selecting the most expensive cuts to inflate the bill.
Therefore, Aldo used the video to issue a warning to those who visit the restaurant.
“If they approach your table with dishes that seem free, don’t accept them, tell them to get lost,” he said.
Finally, the influencer stated that he normally avoids getting involved in controversies or speaking ill of other people; however, he considered it important to share his experience to prevent other customers from going through a similar situation.
