The Mexico City Metro (STC) will extend service hours on lines 1, 2, and 3 this Tuesday, June 30, for the match between Mexico and Ecuador in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup.

According to the announcement released by the Mexico City Metro, these three lines will operate until 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, to facilitate the return of fans attending the match at Estadio Ciudad de México or at designated fan gatherings throughout the city.

The measure aims to ease the commute for those attending the World Cup match or watching the broadcast in public spaces such as the Angel of Independence, Paseo de la Reforma, and areas of the Historic Center, where large crowds are expected.

Which Metro lines will have extended hours for Mexico vs. Ecuador?

The extended hours will apply only to Metro lines 1, 2, and 3, considered key routes for connecting different parts of the city with areas where fans are expected to gather.

Line 1, which runs from Observatorio to Pantitlán; Line 2, from Cuatro Caminos to Tasqueña; and Line 3, from Indios Verdes to Universidad, will maintain service until 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1.

Authorities asked users to plan their trips in advance to return safely to their homes, especially those who need to transfer to other lines or transportation systems.

The rest of the lines will operate on their normal schedule.

The STC Metro reported that the other nine lines of the network will maintain their regular schedule and will end operations at midnight, so users should factor in their travel time if they need to transfer.

This recommendation applies mainly to those who use lines other than 1, 2, and 3, since after the regular closing time they could be left without connections to continue their journey.

The Metro also asked users to take care of the facilities during the match. Among the recommendations are allowing doors to close freely, letting passengers exit before boarding, and avoiding throwing metal objects onto the tracks.

Authorities indicated that these measures aim to prevent service disruptions and ensure safe travel during a night when heavy traffic is expected due to the Mexican National Team’s match.

The extended operating hours are part of the special mobility operation implemented in Mexico City for the 2026 World Cup, given the expected concentration of fans at the stadium, the Historic Center, Paseo de la Reforma, and other gathering points.
