Drones reforest inaccessible or fire-damaged areas in Michoacán

Ninety-two thousand germspheres have been dispersed by drones to reforest hard-to-reach areas or those affected by fires in five municipalities of Michoacán.

This was reported by the State Forestry Commission (Cofom), which added that it is continuing with the “Bio Renace: Dispersando Vida” (Bio Reborn: Dispersing Life) program, through which 26 hectares of forest have been restored to date using this technology.

Cofom noted that the work is being carried out with an average of approximately four thousand germspheres per hectare.

Using drone technology allows for access to hard-to-reach areas and strengthens the restoration efforts in forest ecosystems affected by fires and other degradation processes.

These actions have been carried out in municipalities such as Nuevo Urecho, Pátzcuaro, Tzitzio, Turicato, and Tacámbaro.

In the community of La Cebadilla, in the municipality of Nuevo Urecho, eight hectares were treated with the dispersal of 32,000 seeds of Pinus devoniana.

At the same time, Cofom reported that in the town of El Estribo, in Pátzcuaro, six hectares were treated with 12,000 germspheres of the same species; as well as in Mesa de Tzitzio, where four hectares were restored with 16,000 germspheres of Pinus devoniana and Pinus pseudostrobus.

Likewise, in the municipalities of Turicato and Tacámbaro, four hectares were treated in each, with the dispersal of 16,000 germspheres per site of the species Enterolobium cyclocarpum, Leucaena leucocephala, and Swietenia humilis, which are suitable for the tropical climate conditions of these regions.

Cofom explained that during the next week, the dispersals will continue in the municipalities of Quiroga and Los Reyes, to later conclude in Uruapan, with the objective of reaching the goal of restoring 50 hectares through the dispersal of 200,000 germspheres.
