Sonora needs more permanent blood donors

Since 2025, Sonora has maintained a registry of approximately 1,600 regular volunteer blood donors, reported Edgar Velázquez Vega.

The director of the State Blood Transfusion Center said that men can donate blood up to four times a year, while women can donate a maximum of three times.

“It is important to recognize that hospital units must always have sufficient blood units to attend to any type of emergency, such as accidents, obstetric emergencies, and other chronic conditions like kidney failure. There are 3,500 volunteer donors who require these transfusions,” he stated.

He called on the population between 18 and 59 years of age to become donors in order to help save lives.

“It should be noted that the most difficult blood to obtain is the blood we don’t have in reserve at that moment,” he added.
