On Wednesday afternoon, the sky unleashed its relentless force upon Hidalgo del Parral. In a matter of minutes, an intense and unexpected torrential downpour overwhelmed the city’s infrastructure, flooding streets, streams, and even the Parral River itself.

The phenomenon, already anticipated in weather forecasts for southern Chihuahua state, quickly surpassed all expectations due to the speed and volume of accumulated water.

The initial astonishment turned to collective anguish as the current began to reclaim the land, transforming avenues into raging, untamed rivers.

The most dramatic incident occurred on Avenida de las Quintas, near the El Arroyito bar, where a car was swept away uncontrollably before the astonished and desperate eyes of residents and drivers who were powerless against the force of the water.

Almost simultaneously, the Parral River’s water level rose alarmingly, trapping and sweeping away a second vehicle in the La Alfareña area. Meanwhile, at the entrance to Barrio del Conejo, a historically vulnerable zone, another vehicle suffered the same fate, overwhelmed by the violent floodwaters.

Beyond the material damage to the vehicles, the emergency escalated with reports of flooded homes, severe waterlogging that paralyzed traffic, and structural damage to the pavement in various areas.

This situation prompted a massive and urgent deployment of Civil Protection, Fire Department, Public Safety, and Municipal Transit personnel, who activated rescue operations, provided aid to the population, and immediately closed the most critical points.

Given the looming threat of continued rainfall in the coming hours, authorities remain on high alert and reiterate their urgent plea to the public to avoid risking their lives by attempting to cross flooded areas.
