A proposed tax reform initiative related to inheritance tax has sparked intense debate on social media and among various sectors.
In response to the discussion, businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego reacted on his social media account, questioning the possibility of the State receiving a portion of inherited family assets.
In his post, he pointed out the contradiction of claiming it’s unfair for children to receive property without having made any effort, while simultaneously allowing the government to claim a share of the inheritance. He wrote:
“The curious thing is the contradiction: it says it’s unfair for your children to receive money or property from you without having made any effort, but at the same time, it intends for the government to keep a portion of what you inherit… also without having made any effort.”
He also criticized the proposal, stating that it represents an attempt to appropriate the wealth that families have built through years of work.
The statements sparked divided opinions on social media, with some users supporting his position and others defending the possibility of taxing inheritances.
