Chahué, Santa Cruz, and Pescadores beaches in Santa María Huatulco renewed their Blue Flag international certification for the 2026-2027 season during a flag-raising ceremony and awards presentation by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). This reaffirmed the destination’s commitment to sustainable tourism.
At the same event, the José Vasconcelos Elementary School received the Eco-Schools distinction, an award recognizing its efforts in promoting environmental education and fostering new generations committed to environmental stewardship.
Representatives from the Foundation for Environmental Education Mexico, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) in Oaxaca, the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat), and the recognized educational institution participated in the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of maintaining environmental standards to preserve these international certifications.
The Municipal Government of Santa María Huatulco acknowledged the ongoing work of Zofemat personnel in cleaning, conserving, and protecting the beaches, noting that these actions are fundamental to maintaining the city’s recognition. Furthermore, it reiterated its commitment to continue promoting strategies to preserve the natural heritage and strengthen Huatulco’s position as a national and international leader in sustainable tourism.
