The Los Cabos city government has strengthened communication with the U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana to ensure that the information used to issue travel alerts for this tourist destination is accurate and based on official data provided by local authorities.

During a meeting held this week at City Hall with U.S. Consul General Christopher Teal, municipal officials discussed issues related to security, civil protection, and risk prevention, particularly the information-sharing mechanisms that allow the U.S. government to issue recommendations to its citizens.

City Secretary Alberto Rentería Santana explained that these types of meetings are part of an ongoing coordination agenda between the two authorities, given the significant U.S. community residing in Los Cabos, as well as the high number of tourists from the United States.

“This isn’t the first time we’ve had this meeting. Fortunately, they have an excellent relationship with the Los Cabos Municipal Government. We shared information regarding the protection they provide to their American citizens, and in the case of Los Cabos, as we know, there are thousands of American citizens who are now residents throughout our municipality.”

The official emphasized that maintaining constant communication with the consulate allows them to jointly address issues related to public safety and prevention, especially in a municipality with a significant foreign population and millions of visitors each year.

One of the main objectives of the meeting was to strengthen the flow of official information to U.S. authorities so that travel alerts and advisories accurately reflect the current conditions in the destination.

“It’s very helpful that we can generate this firsthand information, reminding them that they are the ones who activate their alerts, protocols, and warnings for their citizens when they travel abroad. It’s best that they have firsthand information from us regarding prevention so that these well-known alerts are accurate and reflect reality.”

Municipal authorities indicated that this exchange of information also includes civil protection matters, particularly during hurricane season, in addition to the preventive actions implemented in the area of security.

The Los Cabos government affirmed that it will continue strengthening coordination with the U.S. Consulate and with the various levels of government to keep both residents and visitors informed in a tourist destination that receives nearly four million travelers annually, the majority of whom are from the United States.
