SEDENA USED 30-DAY CONTRACTS TO FIRE 60 MEN FROM TULUM WITHOUT SETTLEMENT

The army promised decent jobs with the Maya Train, but today Grupo Mundo Maya laid off 60 heads of households with 30-day contracts, and General Velasco has already fallen, but the families still go hungry.

Is this how SEDENA (the Mexican Army) protects Tulum? Is this how they honor the president’s word? The dismissed workers demand their reinstatement, severance pay according to the law, and an end to the olive-green outsourcing because Tulum is not a military barracks; it’s a town, and the town deserves respect. Labor simulation, 30-day contracts, is equivalent to a violation of Article 39-F of the Federal Labor Law, punishable by a fine of 250 to 5,000 UMAs (Units of Measurement and Update) per worker. If we do the math: 60 x 5,000 UMAs = 6.5 million pesos in fines.

This also suggests damage to AMLO’s flagship project: The Maya Train promised jobs. This contradicts that promise.

The General has already fallen: Velasco Bernal was dismissed 24 hours later. This is an admission of guilt. The people ask President Claudia Sheinbaum and Secretary of Defense Ricardo Trevilla: Do you endorse Grupo Mundo Maya’s use of exploitative contracts in Tulum? Who will answer for the 60 families left without a livelihood?
