Starting this Monday, July 6, several roads in the western part of San Cristóbal de Las Casas will be temporarily closed due to road widening and paving work, the Municipal Transit Department reported.
The disruptions are expected to last approximately 40 days, so authorities are urging residents to take precautions and use alternate routes.
According to the department, traffic safety measures will be implemented starting early Monday morning on major thoroughfares 1 and 3, as well as a section of the toll road connecting San Cristóbal with Tuxtla Gutiérrez, near kilometer 46, a high-traffic road used daily by hundreds of motorists.
They explained that the temporary closure is due to the remodeling and infrastructure work being carried out in the area, and therefore requested that drivers of private vehicles, public transportation, motorcyclists, and visitors respect the warning signs, follow the instructions of traffic officers, and plan their travel times in advance. They also indicated that during the construction period, operational personnel will be on hand to provide guidance to road users to facilitate traffic flow on alternative routes and reduce disruptions to traffic.
