Six people—five men and one woman—were arrested in the municipality of Jiquipilas, Chiapas, while allegedly carrying military-grade weapons and narcotics.
The Secretariat of Public Security reported that the detainees claimed to belong to the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel (CCyG), a criminal organization engaged in an ongoing conflict with the Sinaloa Cartel, particularly in the state’s border region with Guatemala.
The arrests followed an anonymous tip received by the C5 Escudo Pakal Coordination, Control, Command, Communication, and Computing Center. Authorities responded by deploying patrol units to Los Pinos Street in the Santa Cruz neighborhood.
Weapons and Drugs Seized
During an inspection of a white Mercedes-Benz with tinted windows and no license plates, authorities seized 13 AK-47 automatic rifles of various brands, including Century Arms and Sporter Pioneer, all chambered in 7.62×39 mm and equipped with loaded magazines. Officers also recovered one Browning .308 caliber machine gun with a belt containing 100 live rounds.

In addition to the weapons, authorities found 95 plastic bags containing a white crystalline substance with characteristics consistent with methamphetamine (“crystal”), as well as a red Vento motorcycle. Neither the Mercedes-Benz nor the motorcycle had been reported stolen.
The operation was carried out by the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force (FRIP) of the Chiapas Secretariat of Public Security, in coordination with the State Preventive Police and the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
The detainees were identified as José “N,” Jacobo “N,” Ezequía “N,” Gerardo “N,” and Rosalba “N.” They were turned over to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office along with all seized evidence.
Two Other Alleged Members Arrested in April

On April 9, two men believed to be members of the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel were arrested in Jiquipilas while carrying a Mini Draco rifle, drugs, cell phones, and motorcycles.
Authorities also seized two motorcycles, one manufactured by Italika and another by Bajaj Pulsar.
The arrests occurred during a preventive inspection conducted while officers were patrolling the Miguel Hidalgo neighborhood. The operation resulted in the seizure of a 7.62×39 mm Mini Draco rifle, three magazines, 42 small bags containing a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine, two cell phones, and the two motorcycles.
The Secretariat of Public Security stated that the suspects, identified as Benito “N” and Luis “N,” also claimed to be members of the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel.
The operation was led by the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force and the State Preventive Police, in coordination with the Ministerial Investigation and Intelligence Agency, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard.
The suspects and all seized items were placed at the disposal of the appropriate authorities, who will determine their legal status.
“El Espíritu,” Regional Leader of the CCyG, Arrested in February
Among the most significant recent actions against the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel was the arrest of Hugo “N,” alias “El Espíritu,” on February 5 during a coordinated operation by the State Attorney General’s Office in Ocozocoautla, where he was located alongside three other men.
Authorities identified “El Espíritu” as the regional leader of the cartel in Jiquipilas, Cintalapa, Berriozábal, and Villaflores. He had also been designated as a national priority target due to his alleged role as one of the principal generators of violence in the region.
According to authorities, the four suspects attempted to kidnap a group of people while traveling in their vehicle, but the kidnapping was prevented by law enforcement officers.
Juan Manuel Valdovinos Mendoza, known as “El Señor de los Caballos,” is identified as the overall leader of the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel (CCyG) in the state of Chiapas. Authorities state that the organization maintains an alliance with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
