The Tabasco Numismatic Society (Sonutab) officially announced the Fourth National Numismatic and Philatelic Convention Tabasco 2026, an event designed for the exhibition, sale, and promotion of historical coin collecting in the state.

The association’s president, Vidal Williams Lara Sosa, explained at a press conference that the convention will take place on Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, at the Hotel Viva Villahermosa, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. He emphasized that the activities are open to the public free of charge.

The convention will feature more than 30 exhibitors of national and international renown. The organizing committee—comprised of the 58 members of the local society—specified that each collector will display catalogs ranging from 500 to 1,000 pieces.

“They’re bringing very old coins, which visitors will be able to admire, and those who like to collect them can buy them. What interests us most is that people attend and can learn something about numismatics,” said Lara Sosa.

According to the organizers, the opening ceremony and official ribbon-cutting will be led by Vidal Williams Lara Sosa on Saturday, July 18. During the first day of activities, the manager of the Mexican Postal Service, Salvador López Morales, will preside over the cancellation of a postage stamp, followed by the formal presentation of the commemorative medal for the fourth Convention by Javier Francisco Hernández Castañeda.

It is worth noting that this year’s medal pays homage to the state’s archaeological heritage by featuring the face of one of the iconic pieces from the La Venta Museum, owned by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).

Saturday’s program will also include two keynote addresses: the first given by Fernando González Ortega on the topic of “Conservation of Our Numismatic Heritage”; The second presentation will be given by Adán Vite Durán, who will speak about Mexican Coins in Shipwrecks, Global Circulation, and Representative Cases.

On Sunday, July 19, the activities will begin with the presentation of awards for the Quinta Grijalva exhibition, a new postage stamp cancellation, and an international postage stamp auction held via WhatsApp.

Following this, Miguel Alberto Nieto Tello, a member of the Numismatic Club of the State of Hidalgo, will give a presentation titled “Coins of the World and Technology as an Ally.” The Sunday program also includes a children’s workshop focused on world coins, with its corresponding awards ceremony, as well as a live auction before the group photo and the official closing of the event.

Finally, the organizers extended an open invitation to everyone from those just starting to explore these disciplines to beginner and advanced collectors, with the aim of sharing experiences and providing expert guidance on the historical value and care of coins, banknotes, and postage stamps.
