As part of the agreements reached during the Tourism Relaunch Coordination Roundtable for Tulum, the governments of Mexico and Quintana Roo, in coordination with Mexicana de Aviación and tourism industry representatives, announced a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the destination’s air connectivity by adding eight new flight frequencies during July and August, accompanied by a nationwide tourism promotion campaign.

The strategy aims to reinforce Tulum’s position as one of Mexico’s leading tourist destinations during the summer vacation season by taking advantage of its recently developed airport infrastructure and creating greater economic opportunities for hotels, tourism service providers, businesses, and families whose livelihoods depend on tourism.

Authorities stated that the initiative aligns with President Claudia Sheinbaum’s vision of strengthening domestic connectivity as a tool to promote regional development, diversify Mexico’s tourism offerings, and maximize the use of the country’s strategic infrastructure.

In Quintana Roo, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa is leading a strategy based on cooperation among all levels of government, the private sector, and tourism authorities to translate improved air connectivity into higher hotel occupancy, increased tourism revenue, and greater economic well-being for families throughout the state.

Eight New Flights During July and August

As a result of this institutional collaboration, Mexicana de Aviación will add eight additional flight frequencies to Tulum during the summer vacation season, expanding travel options for domestic tourists.

These new operations will be supported by a nationwide promotional campaign running throughout the summer and fall.

Authorities will later evaluate the campaign’s results to determine possible adjustments and decide whether to continue the strategy during the winter travel season.

Promotion Focused on Central Mexico

The promotional campaign will primarily target the Mexico City Metropolitan Area, one of the largest sources of visitors to Quintana Roo.

Priority markets include:

  • Mexico City
  • State of Mexico
  • Hidalgo

The strategy will also focus on attracting traveler segments with strong vacation demand and greater spending capacity.

More Than 200 Hotels to Offer Special Promotions

A key component of the initiative will be a marketing campaign integrated through the Vacation Specials platform operated by the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ).

More than 200 hotels from different destinations across the state are already participating and will offer exclusive promotions designed to encourage more visitors to travel to Quintana Roo.

The goal is for increased air connectivity to translate into higher hotel occupancy and generate benefits throughout the tourism value chain.

National Tourism Promotion Campaign

As part of the initiative, the Government of Quintana Roo, through the CPTQ, has developed promotional materials that have been made available to Mexicana de Aviación to help promote flights to both Tulum and Chetumal.

The campaign will be promoted through multiple media channels, including:

  • Digital platforms
  • Print media
  • Radio
  • Television

The objective is to expand the campaign’s national reach and position the Mexican Caribbean as one of the country’s top vacation destinations.

Hotel Industry Participation Will Be Essential

Officials emphasized that collaboration from the hotel sector will play a crucial role in maximizing the benefits of expanded air service.

Hotels have been encouraged to offer competitive promotions that encourage travelers to purchase vacation packages and help increase passenger demand on the new flights, generating greater economic benefits for both Tulum and the rest of Quintana Roo.

Governor Mara Lezama to Meet With More Than 300 Travel Agents

As part of the tourism promotion strategy, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa will meet in August with more than 300 travel agents from the Mexico City Metropolitan Area.

The meeting aims to strengthen the promotion of the Mexican Caribbean, showcase Quintana Roo’s various tourist destinations, and reinforce the state’s position as the World Capital of Vacation Travel.

Those participating in the presentation of the strategy included Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Quintana Roo’s Secretary of Tourism; Luis Mendieta, Deputy Director of Sales at Mexicana de Aviación; Pablo Casas, Undersecretary of Tourism; Jorge Luis Téllez, Director of Promotion at the CPTQ; Haydé Hernández, Director of Tourism for the Municipality of Tulum; and representatives of the destination’s business community.
