Mexico’s Territory Has Changed Dramatically Over Time

The Mexican territory we know today is very different from the one that existed two centuries ago.

Throughout the 19th century, wars, international treaties, independence movements, and diplomatic agreements reshaped the country’s borders on multiple occasions. Each change brought new challenges for a nation that was only beginning to build its identity.

Some regions became part of Mexico, others separated, and many were shaped by conflicts that remain an important part of the country’s historical memory.

Looking at an old map reveals that history can also be told without words.

Every border reflects a decision, a negotiation… or a war.
