And here is what many people don’t know: the food they grow doesn’t just feed Mexico. It feeds the world. 🌎

Archaeologists have traced the domestication of maize to southern Mexico more than 9,000 years ago. Every tortilla, every elote, every cornfield on Earth carries a piece of Mexican history within it.

🥑 Mexico Is the World’s Leading Avocado Exporter

Today, Mexico is the world’s number one exporter of avocados. Roughly four out of every ten avocados traded worldwide come from Mexican soil, most of them grown in Michoacán.

🍓 A Global Agricultural Powerhouse

Mexican strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes, limes, and peppers are exported to dozens of countries across every continent. According to World Trade Organization data, Mexico is the world’s largest exporter of fresh fruits and vegetables by export value, surpassing 20 billion dollars in 2024, and ranks among the leading food-exporting nations on the planet. 🏆

👨‍🌾 The People Behind the Harvest

Behind every one of those numbers is a person.

The great majority of Mexican farmers are small producers—families working modest plots of land, often without modern machinery, facing droughts, rising costs, and long days that begin before sunrise and end after sunset.

They don’t do it for recognition. They do it because the land is part of who they are—because their fathers did it, and their fathers before them.

The next time you slice an avocado, squeeze a lime, or warm a tortilla, remember: somewhere in Mexico, a campesino woke up before the sun so that moment could happen.
