The summer vacation season continues to generate positive results for Durango’s tourism sector, particularly in the state capital, where the arrival of visitors has helped maintain steady hotel occupancy since the beginning of the holiday period.

Although tourist activity varies depending on the season, July remains one of the busiest months for the tourism industry, benefiting hotels, restaurants, businesses, and service providers that welcome local, national, and international visitors.

Hotels and Cabins Maintain Strong Occupancy Levels

The president of the Union of Tourism and Commercial Associations of Durango, Héctor Zaragoza, reported that the statistics recorded during the first week of the vacation period reflect an encouraging outlook for the sector.

He explained that since July 15, most hotels in the city have maintained an occupancy rate of around 70%, supported by the steady arrival of tourists.

He also noted that the state’s ecotourism centers are reporting favorable figures. Cabins located in various natural destinations have occupancy levels ranging between 70% and 75%, demonstrating visitors’ strong interest in enjoying Durango’s natural attractions.

Occupancy Recovers After a Temporary Decline

Zaragoza stated that occupancy experienced an approximate 20% decrease for a few days; however, the decline was temporary and did not significantly affect the tourism sector.

He added that as the vacation season progressed, demand stabilized and occupancy returned to the levels recorded at the beginning of the holiday period.

Mazatlán Also Records High Tourist Demand

Regarding residents of Durango traveling outside the state for their vacations, the tourism leader highlighted that Mazatlán, Sinaloa, remains one of the most popular destinations, with hotel occupancy exceeding 85% and expectations of reaching as high as 90% during the final weekend of July.

Finally, Héctor Zaragoza emphasized that these positive results are also due to improvements in air and ground transportation connectivity, making it easier for tourists to travel both to Durango and to other destinations across the country, strengthening tourism activity and commercial exchange between different regions.
